immediate assistance from developer

Had a problem on first attempts to install. Developer got on it ASAP - Dash 3 is not that major an upgrade, so it might not be worth the inApp purchase, but it works really well and I had great results from dash 2. This deserves 5 STARS but developer should consider the expectations he is setting for users in demanding fees often through inApp purchases or other tie-in purchases.

Incredibly greedy developer

Judging from the way this developer does business we can expect version 4 to come out in a few months and cost another $10. It’s a shame because this is a wonderful app ruined by a shady developer.

Great app

There really aren’t enough great things to say about this app. It’s really put together well. My only complaint is that it was far too soon between me buying the app and having to buy it again. The developer should really space out the paid upgrades more — a lot more.

Upgrade Issue

I’m a little confused. I have Dash 2 and paid for it and it has been amazing. I downloaded Dash 3 and been trying to restore the purchase and I’m getting an error. Can I restore the purchase od Dash 2 to Dash 3 or do I need to purchase it again for Dash 3?

Definitely worth it

I understand why some people are upset about the paid upgrade for Dash 3 when there aren’t that many new features, but I still think it’s a great deal. I use this app all the time and it is incredibly useful. The developer is responsive and frequently released new features for Dash 2. I view this upgrade as investing in the apps further development. Sure, it doesn’t have many improvements over Dash 2 yet, but it will receive feature updates in the future that makes it worth paying for now. Why wait until the developer is finished with every new feature before releasing the new version? Isn’t it better to get each improvement as it is released rather than waiting to release them all in a single big update? All of that being said, the app could use some improvements. I think the UI and UX needs some love. In particular, the tabs are ugly and don’t have the normal functionality that tabs do in browsers (you can’t reopen closed tabs, for example). Additionally, the snippets functionality could be more robust which the new SnippetsLab app has demonstrated. However, the app is still a total deal at just $10 and I am confident it will continue to receive updates and great new features.

completely worth it

I rely on this tool, because I need to quickly get at the information required to restart a system or troubleshoot a problem on a production server. If I learn to use the snippets feature, I bet I would be much faster. But this works very well. Its very inexpensive. Real software costs money folks. You try feeding your hungry kids C, Java, or Perl. To be honest, this is where Apple did a diservice….this whole five dollar economy for software rarely produces anything good. This is a great tool, and a counter-example to the norm on the Apple Store.

An integral part of my workday

Dash is one of the most heavily used tools in my arsenal. Having docs at my fingertips, online or offline is a game changer. This is worth easily four times what the developer charges for it. For the few other reviewers who feel “cheated” or that it’s not worth the price you’d do well take a look in the mirror at what you do and compare it to the obvious care the author put into this and reassess your judgements.

Very useful, but fix licensing

This is a great app which has sped up my development considerably. The licensing is a pain though, as it doesnt remember when you purchased it, and you need to upload a license file which it isnt very clear how to get to (I still dont know).

Useful

Well implemented application. The only shortcoming is the non-standard window layout with tabs and no window title. Annoyingly unconventional.

Must-Have For Developers

This is a fantastic app, and definitely worth the (cheap!!) price. I do iOS development and have Dash open at all times alongside Xcode.

Worth $10/yr (or < $1/month (or < $0.04/day))

This is a great, well implemented utility. I didnt even hesitate to update when I saw it was available. People who are complaining about the price ($10) should think about how useful it is vs how much other things cost. At less than 4 cents a day (assuming the $10 is just work a year, which isnt accurate at all), Id say this app is worth at least 1/50 of a fancy coffee.

You don’t have this? What are you waiting for ...

Seriously, if you are like me and end up searching through api docs all the time, this is what you want to get. My favorite feature is the iPad mirroring. I prefer reading my docs on the iPad while I work on the laptop, but switching over to the iPad to search for something is slow. Now, you can just switch apps on your laptop, use the keyboard that is right under your hands to search and once you select what you want … WAM! … it’s on the iPad screen. This … is … genius. I bought Dash 2 not too long ago, and was a little annoyed at paying again, but as a developer myself, we really need to get away from this apps should cost nothing and be supported forever. Making apps is hard work and rarely pays enough. I’m glad to support Dash and have Dash support me, by making my work time more efficient.

Snippets are broken (updated: Not broken)

Love this app and I was happy to upgrade however snippets do not work for me any more :( Edit: For some reason I was not prompted to give Dash Accessability access, once I gave it access and restarted the app, snippets started working :)

documentation is incomplete

I’m not sure if the documentation is incomplete or the search function is not good enough, but there are alot of times that I cannot find what I want. As for me, google does a good job. Really a waste of dollars.

Great

This app is great and I used to use dash 2 alot. Its not that long time ago when I purchased dash 2 and I just can’t justify paying again. I would wait for a sale (maybe $10) to get this app again.

Great App

Dashs integration with Alfred puts my documentation right at my finger tips. Dash is the fastest way to drill-down into documentation that Ive ever had. Plus the author is extremely helpful and fast to respond should you need support.

Simply invaluable. Worth every cent.

You may wonder why you would ever need this given that the entire internet is at your fingertips. Try writing code in a 16-hour international flight (without paying extortion money for GoGo in-flight wifi), or debugging something when the ISP or your IT department is having a "service outage". Its also much much faster than waiting on websites to load and hoping your Google search is specific enough to give you properly-constrained results. Plus a companion iOS app. Dash is so awesome.

Cant live without it

I didn’t quite realize I needed this app until I started using it. Now I can’t stop. The app is laid out great, tons of great and usefull features you will slowly figure out as you use the program more and more. I have been using the free version happily for now. If I continue to use the app I will probably pay for it soon.

Best documentation browser ever

Give it a real try and youll love it too.

Quickly Becomes Indespensible!

Gone are my days of having to dedicate multiple browser tabs to various doc sites. With Dash I have one window to rule them all. I love how it augments my development workflow.
